Speaking to my peeps

Jean Laroche and I go back ages. We worked together at the CBC in Montreal - he as a radio reporter and I as the producer for Quebec for the CBC’s flagship news show, The National. Years later we both wound up in Halifax, still working for the CBC.

Now, both retired, we’re working on friendship instead of news stories.

Jean had read The Golden Daughter, loved it and invited me to speak to a group of other CBC’s retirees in Halifax. What a pleasure it was, not only to tell them my story, but to chase up a few memories.

There were questions about the book, and also the usual ones when a group of former colleagues come together.

“When did you work for the CBC?”

"Who was that anchor… you know, the one who came from NBC?”

“Do you remember... ?"

"Whatever happened to... ?"

We all struggle finding the answers, but nobody minded. We knew we had our time working for the public broadcaster, and we were proud we did it.
